It hung and then will not soft-reboot. Strangely, a hard power off / power on will still boot it up most of the time.

Sending in for RMA.. Supermicro just asked to put “C2000 RMA” as the problem description so I suppose a number of these are coming due.

Thats how I found about this bug, which I was not aware of previously. I have to praise Supermicro Europe RMA service, as they asked me to send board, and repaired it free of charge (not sure if they replaced CPU, or just reflashed IPMI firmware and BIOS), although it was out of warranty long ago.

Meanwhile, I have trouble with Gigabyte about my desktop motherboard RMA, despite it been under warranty still

The enclosure was replaced under warranty but the data did not survive. I had been using it as an iSCSI target for a VMWare datastore and the LVM label became corrupt at some stage. Synology support were unable to fix it. In fact they said they had no way of accessing the FS in the configuration.
I’m glad I was backed up, but you don’t expect to lose data on a RAID10 volume…so beware!

The LPC_CLK issue does NOT mean that the affected machines will die in production.. they just won’t come up again after a reboot or powercycle.
Since the BIOS flash attached to the LPC is usually copied to RAM at bootup (“shadowing”), there will be no LPC access during operation.. so many customers will only notice they are actually affected when they have to take systems down for whatever reason.
